Fantasy Girl

Stephen Schlaks – Fantasy Girl
Dancing Blue
Dance With Me
Bobby Solo – Love Is Burning
3 madly arranged tracks from an Italian mor instrumentalist. This stuff kicks off where most disco tunes reach their peak, rising higher and higher into unhinged overdrive. Fantasy Girl needs to be heard from the full 12″ version, not the album one.
Bobby “Una Lacrima Sul Viso” Solo gets a slower groove going with Love is Burning, with similarly ott results.

Vracho Vracho

Olympic Union And The Athenians – Vracho Vracho
Olympic Union And The Athenians – Dirlada
What is this compulsion for music from imaginary package holiday destinations, all made at Musikland Studios of Munchen? I cannot promise to stop this but at least my next post will be a more sensible one.

Dancing

Paolo Conte – Dancing
Rita & L’Anonima Ragazzi – Presto (People Are People)
A leftfield entry from Italy, pitched all the way down. Borderline stuff but I’ve found it works on the floor.
The 2nd cut is another one that may make you go hmmm…is it a schlager or something else? The singer is Rita Pavone, a big favourite among the mor crowds during the 60’s.

Ediva – Chiama se puoi

telefono grillo

High italian drama from 1980. Ediva has sure some explosive potential for a re-edit session at the sunset. Again, cheese quanties were massive, so this is speeded up to the very first acceptable speed. Again, this truly deserves the “wtf” tag!

A false sequel to Hard Dixo.

The first half is dedicated to hard electronic basslines and French stompers, the other one slows down a bit and features some oddities and exotic curiosities.

Hare Krishna (Be-In)

Edmundo Ros – Hare Krishna (Be-In)
A loungey dance tune for your first beach party of the summer ( a vintage Gucci headscarf there, a psychedelic pair of flares here ), from 1969 when the musical “Hair” was hot. In London, it ran for nearly two thousand performances.

Freak Out Music

R.P. Burman – Freak Out Music
Frank Sinatra – Night And Day (disco )
Two left field tracks: Freak Out Music from the 1973 soundtrack of “Heera Panna” and a very questionable 1977 version of “Night And Day”, sung by once legendary crooner and rumoured Goodfella (person closely connected to Mafia) Frank Sinatra himself.

Timothy e Luca – Due

delittobluegay

Obscure italian disco masterpiece or total crap that needs to be forgotten as soon as possible? Either way, this 1979 gay-themed track is all about one of the two guys getting horny listening how the other one cheated on him, I’m pretty sure it needs no translation whatsoever. For sure, this is strictly for sleaze experts only.

Jorma Markos – Villi Tunne Valtaa Mun
After Anneli Pasanen’s Auringonmaa here’s another package holiday disco trip, Finnish style. ” I feel your loins move and a savage feel comes over me” he sings. Surrender, now!

As Loose As The Eurostoxx

vaalate-81498367684736847681768

An old DJ set I’ve dug up from a dusty hard drive, most likely recorded in late 2008 (hence this curious name.) I don’t recall the set being aired on the webradio, nor mixing it, but I’m defo proud of it upon listening to it now.

Big fat warning: if you can’t stand unlikely mashups, bits of eurodance and chiptunes here and there, loads of italo disco covers with huge sawtooth waves, please don’t listen to it. This post does really deserve its ‘wtf?’ tag.

Drowning in the sea of love

Who knows this has possibly been the real reason why The Beatles split? For sure, this is in no way related to anything in the Beatles production.

Ringo Starr has made his own – agreeable – excursions into disco with “Ringo the 4th” LP. The year is the good one, 1977, and this is the single from the album, highly recommended that you get this.

This asks for a re-edit so bad, and to my knowledge there’s no instrumental featured on the promo only 12″, the only “loud” format you can get this track on.

Mr. Starr has my unconditional estimation, though: he clearly tried to step away from pop/rock territories, but clearly could only do that in a solo project.

This unreleased promo video depicts the tripping effects of drowning in a sea of love, alcohol, female body parts, lipstick, high heeled shoes, you’ve been warned!

Kirka

igor2

Kirka – Igor

Kirka sings how he gets beaten and kicked around, and then his master puts a dog collar around his neck, chains him and makes him watch as he goes to see a woman.

Kudos to dj Anssi for pointing out this kinky&funky Finnish tune from the soundtrack of the socially conscious (oh, sure!) film “69”.

A Lotta Limbo

limbo1

Billy Strange – A Lotta Limbo

An essential album-side long percussion jam. Billy Strange was an all-around cool songwriter-guitarist-arranger etc who worked with Aretha Frankin and Elvis Presley and wrote the impressive protodisco track DeSade in 1969.

The limbo is a dance originating from the 50’s. It’s still being done in package holiday destinations, especially around the Caribbean. The dancer leans backward and advances under a horizontal pole without touching it. If the pole or the person falls, she or he is out of the game. Needless to say, this causes slipped disks and other severe back problems to last the rest of your life.
