Ali Baba

Pappy’ion – 1001 Nights (Ali Baba) (1979)

If you can skip all the Euro-pop segments then it’s pretty decent IMO. I’ve looked for an instrumental version only but to no avail.

Sister Susie’s Synthesizer

synthi

synthi & gert – sister susie’s synthesizer

A children’s song-like track apparently popular in Germany during the late 70’s.  Cheap, horrible and embarrassing – OR IS IT?

Captain Future

181293467_b8a5022738_o.jpg Every thirty or twentysomething will easily remember this old anime, named differently according to the country that broadcast the show (e.g. Captain Future, Capitan Futuro or Capitaine Flam).

It is worth noting that every European country had its own version of the OST. While, in France for example, Jean-Jacques Debout (see previous post) recorded it, Christian Bruhn released his own version for the German market, in 1980.

Christian Bruhn – Gefahr
Christian Bruhn – Vor dem Start
Christian Bruhn – Durch den Weltraum nach Hause

This OST spawned countless remixes and cover versions. Some are o.k., others are really bad.

The original:
Christian Bruhn – Feinde greifen an
The remake:
Phil Fuldner – The Final (Chronovisor Mix) (1998)

The original:
Christian Bruhn – Space – Wind
The remake:
Wildchild – All Together (1996) – I should still have my Mokum T-shirt somewhere, cleanly packed…

Knowing Me, Knowing You Dub

abba_heads.jpg Linda Jane Bull did an awesome job with this ABBA track. She(?) trimmed all the fuss and the extra-sweet pop elements from the original version and spared one single loop only, but what a loop!

This is a wonderful edit full of flange and reverb: the end-result is really dubby and cosmic.

Manureva

manureva.jpg

‘Manureva’ was the Tahitian name of a ship that sank during a yacht racing in 1978. It inspired the musical genius Serge Gainsbourg to write the lyrics for a Disco track written and arranged by Alain Chamfort and Jean-Noël Chaléat.

On a side note, J-N. Chaléat is also responsible for the incredible V.I.P., already presented in these pages.
