Running Up That Hill (For Cover)

childrunninghappiness.jpg

Everybody (?) knows Kate Bush, talented English artist and behind loads of hits in the eighties. I do really appreciate her Running Up That Hill, released in 1985, and I’ve recently noticed that it’s been covered by a wide array of Electronic producers, a lot.

Some are pure garbage to my ears but others are quite excellent, not surprisingly the ones I prefer are those that kept the simple melody, the strong reverb and all the things that made the original release great.

The Original:
Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill (Extended Version)

A slight Electro redux:
Datassette – Running Up That Hill (2005)

A more Housey outfit:
Housego – Running Up That Hill (2006)

And finally a gentle commercial House reconstruction not using the main chorus as the gimmick:
Infusion – Running Up That Hill (2002)

Edit by Kundalini:
AND finally a slow italo synth-pop because Italians Do It Better (as you should know by now).

Chromatics – Running Up That Hill (2007)

Gat Decor

If you were a teen or a twentysomething in the early nineties then you obviously remember this track. One-hit-wonder though, too bad.

IMHO, only the Naked Mix deserves the mention but it is a true old school classic.

Acid Thunder

One of “Fast” Eddie Smith‘s big hits, released in 1988 on his Acid Thunder EP… and one of the breakthroughs in Acid House too. The 303 bassline sounds really fresh for this period.

Hanna Haïs

Hanna Haïs and the legend Chez Damier

Hanna Haïs has been producing special blends of latin house since 2002, she always benefits from great remixes and is surely someone to check out.

The Outrunners

The Outrunners, aka Pierre De La Touche & Stephen Falken, are members of a collective called Valerie. Recently signed on Lemon & Lime Records, their new track really delivers in both nostalgic feelings and disco raw power.

Adventure

I first discovered Lifelike with the track Obsessions back in 2002, and since then I’m amazed by the overall quality of his productions.

His most popular track is most certainly the acclaimed dancefloor smasher Discopolis (in collaboration with Kris Menace) in 2005.

Here’s another of his best track to date, released the same year. It’s epic, thrilling, and disco.

Lifelike – Adventure

Lifelike’s first album should be in the making right now, don’t miss Golden Boy (working title?) when it’s out

Keep On Holding On

Another fine tune from the Midwest duo Josh Barnes and Justen Parris aka Automatic & Silk. Chicagoan House all the way. Bouncing and cheerful.

which BTW samples sections from:
Margaret Reynolds – Keep On Holdin’ On (1982)
