Elektra

elektra 1Zdenka Kovacicek – Elektra

First time I heard this I felt unreal warmth and consolation. A tune so amazingly good it feels like you could program your dreams into desired directions. It’s impossible to think that I could ever loose that connection with this tune, even though I’ve heard it about 3214 times (Yugoslavia, 1978).

Voci Nella Citta’ Delle Donne

felllini picLuis Bacalov – Voci Nella Citta’ Delle Donne

It’s always delightful to see and hear Soccio’s classic disco cut The Visitors in Fellini’s La Città Delle Donne (1980). For some reason The Visitors is not featured on the OST, but please do take the OST with you next time you’re digging. My favorite track is Voci Nella Citta’ Delle Donne with mysterious chants and things cosmic. Goes well into art crowds.

Sandokan

Guido e Maurizio de Angelis – Sandokan

This pirate flute madness is coming from the italian TV show Sandokan. Sandokan is a fictional pirate legend also known as I pirati della Malesia. The music is by Guido e Maurizio de Angelis from ’76. Maybe a bit over the top, but isn’t that how we like it?

Sciack Sciuck Seghis

L’Antico Castagno – Sciack Sciuck Seghis

Sounds from uncharted regions of the mind exposing integrative levels of consciouness. Carlo experimented with this at Camp Cosmic, allowing those present to undergo intense spiritual illuminations induced by the rhythms, an effect similar to that produced by fantasy-liberating substances, hypnosis, meditation, prayer, or free association during psychoanalysis.

Disconcerto

Alex Cima – Disconcerto

Peter Fonda has owned a MV Agusta F4 1000 which might have been a better travelling companion than that washing machine. Hard to tell, I haven’t tried either. Meanwhile I’ve been trippin’ with this classic for hours now (Germany, 1979).

Be Quite

Yan Tregger – Be Quite

Magnifique !

Charisma – Magnifique (1979)

One of the cosmicest sci-fi disco pieces unheard on this blog. I can’t believe it !

For those who don’t know yet little advice: just let yourself  high ! An Anthony Monn‘s production just like O.R.S. (Orlando Riva Sound) or Amanda Lear amongst others.

Massiera & Torelli On Fire

usted-front-cover

In 1981 our two favourite French sonic cosmonauts J.P. Massiera & his half-brother Bernard Torelli released two singles on the label Général Music France using  the artist name Usted Del Fuego. Perhaps the more well known of the two releases is Misa Criolla, an adaption of the ‘gloria’ hymn  by Ariel Ramírez. The other single is Cancion Del Fuego and though credited to Massiera and Torelli on the record label, it seems to be an adaption of the twelth movement from the ballet El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla written in 1915

According to the sleeve notes, the track appeared on the soundtrack to the 1982 French film Espion, lève-toi directed by Yves Boisset. The film itself, a political thriller has been described as a cross between the Alan J Pakula 1974 conspiracy-noir The Parallax View and the John Frankenheimer original The Manchurian Candidate. As these are two of my all time favourite films, I have wanted to see Espion, lève-toi for quite a while. (more…)

Funky Jungle

Black Gorilla – Funky Jungle (1976)

Friendly tip: If the record is priced too high (and it currently is) then either try to find Sweet Promise – Funky Jungle or El Currante – Jungle Fever, it’s the same track except that fewer people care about these two latter bands.

Galaxy

rockets-galaxy.jpg

Tracks like Galactica (and the short guitar riff ala Robot Rock) and In The Black Hole (with its Kano-like sound) put an instant smile on my face…
I’m sure you will appreciate the wicked twists and turns on Galaxy: an album from the Rockets, and released in 1980.

Rockets – Galactica
Rockets – Mecanic Bionic
Rockets – Synthetic Man
Rockets – One More Mission
Rockets – Universal Band
Rockets – Prophecy
Rockets – In The Black Hole

Heatstroke

glen.jpg

The very first track from the man Man Parrish. Just a little before he definitely moved on to more Electro Funk-infused sounds, he produced this jewel of cosmic Hi-NRG.

Man Parrish – Heatstroke (1982)

As a funny trivia point, this track was in fact solely created (and anonymously used) as a ‘background action’ soundtrack for a gay porn flick. It was only after being bootlegged on vinyl that M. Parrish finally got his first proper record deal.
