Love Me Now

lmrnWilliam Oneyabor – Love Me Now

You don’t necessary need a soulmate to be in love. It’s perfectly fine that your relationship is based on impeccable taste in clothing (Nigeria, 1979).

Skhumba

Pat Shange - Skhumba

Pat Shange – Skhumba

South Africa ’78. Can’t find much info on this record. Vocals is delivered by South African singer Pat Shange, but i think we should credit the producers Wilson Ndlovu and Phillip Khumalo since it’s the phat sound of the production that does the trick here. The record is released on the South African “Sounds Disco” label.

Afrique Tango

DSC_0125

Guam & Zaka Percussion – Afrique Tango

This 1978 percussion jam is the kind of track that always works but not always brings a desired effect. What you’ll get is yoga freaks, art students with leftist leanings and people who usually never dance invading the floor, arms open wide, exploring the African Woman inside them. They close their eyes in ecstasy. The movements become more and more frenzied, the bodies jerk around with wild abandon. Often, dedicated dancers have to move aside in fear of getting bruised. Still, it’s a good sound.

… or Coke or Koke… a classic with many names and forms, but works everytime when the early seventies club sound is desired on the floor.

Funky Jungle

Black Gorilla – Funky Jungle (1976)

Friendly tip: If the record is priced too high (and it currently is) then either try to find Sweet Promise – Funky Jungle or El Currante – Jungle Fever, it’s the same track except that fewer people care about these two latter bands.
