1975

1975

1975

“Melissa realized they were heading out of Manhattan. “Where are you taking me?” she demanded. “Home to meet mother?” Her perfume and the rustling of her tighs as she turned to check his reaction were sharp intrusions in the quietly purring Rolls. “No,” Larry drawled, driving steadily. “Not to mother. Just to a big, comfortable place. My summer house. As you already know I happen to be a terrific cook.”
He sounded like a kid. Melissa’s eyes were blazing. “Stop the car. I am taking the subway downtown, to Busby’s. I am going disco dancing like I told you. Without you. And Larry dear, it’s just as well, as your dancing is as bad as your cooking.”

Jacqueline Cole: Deadly Devotions (1975).

Denny Blue – Helldriver

This time, it’s war – the moment I hear John & Yoko’s whiny tune from behind the wall or ANY other christmas song I’ll turn the speakers and give the neighbour the full fury of Helldriver, a 1977 rock/disco mutation from Germany. L.O.U.D. The neighbour started it, I’ll finish it.

The Valleys

Apollo 100 – The Valleys

Another fab tune connected in no way with the immortal Russ Meyer classic – which contains one of the most important lines in cinema history: YOU WILL DRINK THE BLACK SPERM OF MY VENGEANCE! – apart from a word in it’s title and an overall mood of loungey grooviness. Had the film been made just a few years later this is what the music heard during the party scenes would have sounded like.

Coming & Going

Antonio Carlos Jobim – Coming & Going

Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the most noted Brazilian musicans, the composer of “The Girl from Ipanema”, in icon of cool, did he really do something like this? A few snatches of the stuff was heard in a muted form in the 1970 film The Adventureres but the track itself was never included in the offical, internationally realesed soundtrack. Here it is now, in it’s fully audible, uncensored glory!

Kreis – Doch Ich Wollt’ Es Wissen

Die diskotheken-sensation für 1975 ist das 1973 gegründet discoband Kreis. Arrangements und Spiel sind tadellos und eigenwillig! Before being realesed on their first album the track was originally out on 7″ in 1975 and also included on a compliation called Rhythmus ´75.

Abu Ali

abualiZiad Rahbani – Abu Ali

There is something so absurdly discouraging in living in Finland in November that you should definitely try it. Anyone can lose hope and enthusiasm of better tomorrow in this endless darkness. It feels like escapism is de rigueur to survive. This dreamy lysergic soundscape from 1978 (Lebanon/Greece) is my drug of choice. I want to escape to those dark warm nights of late August. Maybe a weekend with the chosen few at the cottage. Psychedelic light projections in the forest. Sauna all the night. Quality absinthe and talk, talk, talk. Dancing to the full version of Abu Ali at 5.37 ante meridiem. Only 270 days.

Erotico Mistico

erotico mistico picEnnio Morricone – Erotico Mistico

Nixxon posted the amazing disco mix of Come Maddalena. Tune so beautiful, that I remember crying for the first 27 times I heard it. I can resist everything but temptation to post one of my all time faves from the original 1971 soundtrack. I’ve played Erotico Mistico a couple of times as an opening track. Naturally it’s been played for your aural pleasure, but also to make a point. Please don’t bother to ask for the usual club hits. Still, there will always be people, who think I should own the popular stuff and what’s even more disturbing – play them in public. Unsurprisingly I’ve been deeply in the underground with my records.

Come Maddalena

Ennio Morricone – Come Maddalena

To my surprise this wasn’t to be found in our archive, so i guess it’s my duty to upload it now. It’s maybe my favourite Morricone tune. Original from the ’71 Maddalena movie but this version came later on the disco 78 record.

マスクドライダーシステム

This vaguely Village People-ish tune is off a compliation album filled with theme music and short sound snippets from 70s Japanese superhero tv shows like Kamen Rider. There are no words in English on the sleeve.

Disco Pomp

Senior Class – Disco Pomp

This 1978 American track not only operates with the exact same musical keys as the Italian-made Tom Dooley Story posted here earlier, it also seems to belong to the same difficult-to-describe category of music making. There is evidence of definite workmanship and talent involved in the arrangements and the Singers Unlimited-styled vocal performances. Yet, despite the hard playing, it’s all way too middle-of-the-road for even to those clubbers who enjoyed disco versions of standards like Baby Face, and too strange for the James Last & Frank Valdor crowd. Upon their realese records like this did not make anyone dance or make anyone roll around engulfed in throes of unbridled lust. They did not really work in any other way either. The records just laid there completely forgotten. Until now!

Ricky King

Ricky King – High Noon

Ricky’s syndrums & synths & steel guitar surf disco hit “Monkey Dance” is well known. High Noon, a perhaps less familiar 1976 version of the western theme is not half bad either.

I’m happy to report this kind of German product was extremely popular in my country. According to Wikipedia Frank Valdor’s album King Size sold 25,000 copies here and was awarded gold status.

The Lies in Your Eyes

WP_20141120_004

Frank Valdor – The Lies in Your Eyes

I drop the needle on the record and immediately, to my shock and surprise, the face of Frank Valdor seems to thrust foward from the sleeve, almost touching my forehead. He grabs my throat, eyes blazing in fury, voice booming: You thought you had heard the last of me, ja? Nein, nein! I haff more ways to make you dance than you kann imagine! Now dance, you idiot, dance!”. It’s too late to run, all I can do is Obey. Faster and faster I prance, begging for mercy, the diamonds of my tears flying to all directions. I lose my balance and fall, head crashing thru the Eileen Gray glass table. Seconds before it’s all over for me on this earth I register Frank howling with laughter, over the fantastic music.

A mooncake could be either an intergalactic pinup girl/boy or a customized space cookie. The trippy sounds from the reliable Schlaks were made in 1979.

I hereby like to offer a refund for the lack of a decent Halloween contribution. As Black Dracula has been posted here before, I added the flip slightly pitched down, whose rather unusual instrumentation scores in weirdness.

Kunihiko Murai – 子連れ狼 地獄へ行くぞ!大五郎 (Kodure Ookami Jigoku/White Heaven and Hell

Hideaki Sakurai – 子連れ狼 冥府魔道 (Kodure Ookami Maifumando/Baby Cart in the Land of Demons)

More themes from the legendary Lone Wolf & Cub series of films from the early seventies about Ogami Itto, an wandering assassin and his extremely fashionably dressed little son, Daigoro. White Heaven and Hell begins like a Love Unlimited tune, then breaks into a seriously funky club number. Baby Cart in the Land of Demons is a jazzy dancefloor track.
