Eleanor Rigby

stillUranium – Eleanor Rigby

Played this at -8 on Friday. Familiar melody with pounding bass and insanely loud effects caused a few curios questions.

I Cugini Di Campagna

I Cugini Di Campagna – I Suoi Consigli

I Cugini Di Campagna – Come To Canterbury

Even though these guys are folk rockers Disco requirements are met in their “I Suoi Consigli”. The Canterbury tune is the theme from Canterbury Proibiti, one of the low budget softcore sex comedies made to cash in on the success of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s bawdy Canterbury Tales in 1972. Sort of danceable too, in a vaguely barefoot hippie-ish manner.

Nick The Chopper

cfdBarış Manço – Nick The Chopper

Whoever Nick The Chopper was, he must have lived an utterly miserable life. Strange campfire groove was later discofied on a rare c-cassette release. This is a more common 7″ version.

Ballerino & Miseria

gran

Los Campesinos – Ballerino

Los Campesinos – Miseria

Italy 1975. Miseria is a strange version of A Far L’Amore Comincia Tu, the Raffaella Carra tune heard during the party scenes of the excellent and visually extremely luscious La Grande Bellezza (2013) by Paolo Sorrentino, from which the image is from. The a-side Ballerino is the definitive take on Georgie Dann’s Campesino, one of the all-time package holiday disco classics.

The Laughing Policeman

Laughing Policeman

New World Symphony – Theme From The Laughing Policeman

The theme from a San Francisco-set police action film from 1973, the kind they just cannot manage anymore. The recent A Walk Among the Tombstones with Liam Neeson tried it’s best but while not a failure by any means, it still wasn’t bleak, grimy and brutal enough.

Isle Of Lesbos

ghiol-1819186773313636Gerhard Heinz – Isle Of Lesbos (1978)

Previously unreleased soundtrack of the movie “Die Insel der tausend Freuden” and now pressed in limited quantities by Private Records.
The whole OST is really pretty solid.

Note: this specific track does actually only appear for a few very short seconds (!) in the movie, no more.

More Poncho Pueblo

Poncho Pueblo – El Bimbo

Surely the grittiest version ever. In the picture, Salvador Dali poses with Potassa De La Fayette, a drag queen scenemaker during the early days of disco in New York where this tune was massive in all it’s permutations.

All Along The Watchtower

panopticonBuffalo – All Along The Watchtower

Some people have an obsession to sing-along when dancing. Nothing wrong with that if your main focus is on the beat. You can drown yourself in the rhizome of the lyrics later in the night.

Primitive Desire

Primitive Desire

Tracks extremely hot six or seven years ago when this recording was made during a gig. Contains long versions of Eastbound Expressway’s fierce Primitive Desire, Delicate Jan by Azoto, Johnny Guitar by Slang and the anthemic Dream Machine by Disco Dream and the Androids – which absolutely has to be heard in full – plus some Discocross and a bit of Yma Sumac.
