Shining Down

Perfectly timed subtle glances or shamelessly intense stare? Vedette Records classic is for the latter situation.

Besame

Apollo 100 – Besame Mucho

“Katherine moaned, first in outrage, then in helpless surrender. He recognized her capitulation within a heartbeat, his demanding tongue ceasing to be a plunderer and becoming a lover, coaxing the cherry lips of her mouth to ecstasy. By slow degrees, her struggles ceased, her body relaxed, molding itself to his, reshaping itself to fit his steely contours. Katherine, thrilled with Eduardo’s magnificent strength, burst into a rousing rendition of “Besame Mucho”, with joy and supreme satisfaction.”

YES – hotter than any version of the tune unearthed before if you ask me. A tumultous arrangement, bold guitars. The buildup near the end of the clip is especially stunning. This seems to be the only actual disco record Apollo 100 made but what a record it is!

Ricky Shayne – Ramadan

Can’t remember who tipped me off about this but here’s Ricky Shayne now, certain to become a new style icon and role model to many of us. Ricky has a website of his own so you can dwell into the Shayne mystique there: “I’m sure you would love to have more details and gossip on my adventures, cars, girls, extravagances…”

The Western All’Italiana track of the month. If it’s a Western All’Italiana it don’t mean they smuggle cappuccinos to rebels in it.

Family Gay – Bulldozer

Family gay

Who says that gay families are only a recent thing? Here is the track “Bulldozer” by…Family Gay, an italian pop-disco project issued in 1978 by Bergamo based Emmebi Records. The 7″ contains “Love Man” track on A-side, which is a pop ballad, and this “Bulldozer” on B-side, more discofied. I personally discovered this record in a small flea market in North of Italy, which continue to be my favourite spots for disco records hunting. This is my first post on Overfitting Disco, and i am proud to be part of this superfab collective.

Gene Farrow – Danger Zone

The Gene Farrow album from 1978 (GB) is nothing but good cuts like “Can You Keep It Up”(!) but this one is the top tune. More of the track can be heard in the Zoom mix: http://overfitti.ng-dis.co/archives/9226

Earlier Eleanor

Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps – Eleanor Rigby

The first, moody disco version of the Beatles tune was out already in 1975, by the studio orchestra who bought the world the insanely happy Baby Face. Both Wing&Prayer tracks were big club hits especially in the USA.

I Cugini Di Campagna

I Cugini Di Campagna – I Suoi Consigli

I Cugini Di Campagna – Come To Canterbury

Even though these guys are folk rockers Disco requirements are met in their “I Suoi Consigli”. The Canterbury tune is the theme from Canterbury Proibiti, one of the low budget softcore sex comedies made to cash in on the success of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s bawdy Canterbury Tales in 1972. Sort of danceable too, in a vaguely barefoot hippie-ish manner.

cfdBarış Manço – Nick The Chopper

Whoever Nick The Chopper was, he must have lived an utterly miserable life. Strange campfire groove was later discofied on a rare c-cassette release. This is a more common 7″ version.
