Makin’ Music

cs02p19s.jpg

Over 9 minutes of pure dubby and trippy goodiness, thanks to Joe Tucci‘s know-how.

The Vocal version is fine too, but IMO the Dub Mix is really the standout track on this release.

Megatron Species

A huge classic from one of the creators of Hi-NRG, along with a limited pressing cover version which is fairly good on its own.

Entering Snake Pass

(artwork by Godspill)

Galaxy Toobin’ Gang are William T. Burnett & Eliot J. Lipp from New York. They’re part of the Crème Organization (discography here) a dutch label.

Their 1st release for Crème contains 8 tracks (unreleased yet…). Many influences in their music like Vangelis, John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno and more.

Here’s a wonderful piece a kind of future dub from space I found on another blog but I had to share:

Voodoo Man

tamilvoodoo.jpg

Voodoo Man” is a famous funky disco tune by the Biddu Orchestra. Its producer Biddu also worked with Carl Douglas (world-wide hit “Kung Fu Fighting“) and other guest stars. (Biddu’s biography)

It still sounds great to me with its squeezy guitar riff, voodoo chorus and the little flute melody. Another ceremony to wake up the dead but this time in a funky style.

Annie Anner

56452739_1-1.jpg

Anne-Lie Thorslund aka Annie Anner is a Swedish girl specialized in italo disco.

Night In The City is one of the first songs of her rather short career and undoubtely the most successful. Other tracks such as Robotman or The Human Race (either three are co-written with Lars Fjellström) are however as enjoyable as they are well produced and maybe retrospectively even better IMO.

Italians Do It Better

Mike Simonetti, an american DJ, became a label manager in the early 90’s with Troubleman Records. After his participation to the disco and post punk revival in successfull parties in NYC he decided to create the sub-label “Italians Do It Better” with his special blog. Seeing the success of a few limited run CDRs and 12″s he understood that it could be more than a joke.

Hills Of Katmandu

ktm2.jpg

This track is an epic and progressiv 16 minutes trip. Masterpiece from “The Double Album” released in 1980.

A “megamix” from Patrick Cowley has been released in 1988 and for sure many other versions to discover… (in spanish for example)

Now attach your belt and listen carefully the sample to make up your mind.

Celso Valli, also involved in the project Azoto and others, is responsible for some hits of italo-disco scene like “San Salvador” or “Exalt-Exalt” on the LP “Disco Fizz” in 1979.

Looking For Love

Maethelvin strikes again! I just love this simple yet so melancholic melody.

Maethelvin – Looking For Love (2008)

As an extra bonus, a new track from his Valérie team fellows: The Outrunners.

Alternative Reality – Get Away (The Outrunners Remix) (2008) Soon to be released.
IMHO the original version was plain bad, The Outrunners did a great job rewriting it from scratch.

Tracey In My Room

hotel-room.jpg

Much hyped when released as a bootleg in 2000, this track was actually done by Ben Watt from the Everything But The Girl fame but under cover. It then went legit soon after and even published as a plain EBTG’s remix. I still love that song from the first time I heard it.

It comprises the acappella from Everything But The Girl – Wrong and the instrumental part of Sandy Rivera – Come Into My Room (Take It Back Mix) – a Soul Vision remix, hence the name of the bootleg.

Yet another off topic ticket but I really couldn’t resist. Though I’m no fan of Martin Solveig, this remix is THE sh%t!

Anthemic French House with maximum distortion. I love those f%cking beets!

Thanks to Kidz By Colette for sharing this exclusive track. Soon to be released on the next Solveig’s album.

Knightlife

midevil-knight-deluxe-plus.JPG

Seriously, he is one of the very few to have brought out a perfect blend of synthpop, french house and ‘distortion-knob’ electro; and yes: Knightlife is as good as it gets.

He is also quite new on the scene and surely someone to eagerly watch out for in the future. I discovered his work out of sheer luck and now I must admit I’m totally hooked on his sound.

Au Paradis

2uf4mpu.jpg

Originally released in 1982 on Chagrin D’Amour‘s only album, it is one of those tracks meant to make love to: repetitive patterns, funky riff and spoken words of a couple in the background.

Sadly, the song is really too short to be appreciated to its full extent and, as such, Loud-E did a perfect job extending the original 2 minutes and a half to a mere 6 minutes long cut (who said it is still too little ;)).

Chagrin D’Amour – Au Paradis (LoudEfied Edit) (2007)

It appears that this track has been wrongly attributed to LoudEfied alone when it was first aired on the CBS Top 100 show.

Just for fun, here are the roughly translated (and silly) lyrics, from French to English:

Grégory : Tell me « apple »
Valli : « apple… apple »
Grégory : once more…
Valli : « apple »… it’s good !
Grégory : the apple ?

Chorus : Don’t say a word you know that, we can’t believe it
No more words you know that, it’s better this way (x2)

Valli : I can’t believe it ?
Grégory : hush…
Valli : What about : « hush » ?
Grégory : Just because : hush !
Valli : Because I can’t believe it ?
Grégory : Don’t say a word…
Valli : But…
Grégory : No no, no more words : hush !
