Miha Kralj – Robot

This vinyl collection of previously unrealesed electronic tracks from 1981 till 2015 has been available on Discom label for a few months now.  As it’s a strictly limited realese do yourself a favour and get a copy right away. You will definitely not want to miss the two Miha Kralj masterpieces that open the album. Take a listen for proof. The rest of the material is less disco but interesting nevertheless, and that sleeve!  Your all-white neo-minimalist flat-cum-gallery living space demands you  frame it.

YMO Tribute

87520050521651475312a98f5463.jpg

3 great tracks, from different eras and in different styles, covering some Yellow Magic Orchestra‘s tracks (see here).

Greg Phillinganes – Behind The Mask (1985)
Reportedly, this specific tune was once thought to be included in Michael Jackson‘s Off The Wall but it didn’t end up that way. The album keyboard player, G. Phillinganes, resang the vocal part and ultimately used it for a record of his own.

Ken Ishii – Firecracker (2001)

Electric Youth – Replay (Demo) (2008)

Skatebård – Vuelo

This 1st album by Skatebaard in 2008 was composed for us to experience a sonic adventure…  far away from Earth.
Just choose your time and place, let’s lift off!

Skatebård – Kosmos

Including old efficient releases like “Vuelo” or “June Nights South Of Siena” it’s even going higher with new tracks with various influences from balearic or techno to old school house or electro. For example this following may be the dark side:

Love Lazer Dance Sex

David Carretta – Love Lazer Dance Sex (2008)
(Listen to the full track)

Carretta‘s 3rd album is released (related post) and it’s simply a masterpiece IMHO.

I could sum up this as the adventures of an italo lover who falled in love with a female android disco dancer. Shall I tell you the end ?… No, just listen to the whole story on Last.fm.

Zauberstab

Za ZaZauberstab (1982)
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=lD7QmKJ1LyQ

Peter La Bonté is Za Za. This is the 3rd single from the only album “Za Za” in 1982 on Blow Up.

Za Za – Zauberstab
Za Za – Zauberstab (instrumental)

Über kitsch and a quite funny tune ! A piece of the NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle) genre = the german new wave.

Note: “Zauberstab” meaning a magic wand for love so…

The german producer Florian Senfter (aka Zombie Nation, Splank!) covered this single in 2002 remixed one year later by Johannes Heil.

John Starlight – Zauberstab der Liebe (Johannes Heil Remix)

Model 500

detroit_techno_map.jpg
(The Detroit Techno Pac Man Map, courtesy of Pac-Mondrian)

Duh? Off-topic? Maybe, maybe not… anyway I wanted a bit of Juan Atkins‘ sound in my ears today.
For those who have no clue who Juan Atkins is: he laid down the foundations of the musical genre defined as Techno. Simple introduction, isn’t it?

Here’s a small collection of his work under the Model 500 moniker:

Model 500 – The Chase (Smooth Mix) (1989)
Model 500 – Ocean To Ocean (Instrumental) (1990)
Model 500 – Future (Vocal) (1985)
Model 500 – No UFO’s (D-Mix) (1985)
Model 500 – Techno Music (M500 Version) (1993)
Model 500 – Time, Space, Transmat (1985)
Model 500 – Electronic (Remix) (1993)
Model 500 – Off To Battle (Remix) (1993)
Model 500 – Sound Of Stereo (Revamp) (1987)
Model 500 – Interference Mix 1 (1988)

Sharevari

A Number Of NamesSharevari

(on Detroit’s local dance show “the Scene” in 1982)

“Charivari” in french is the word to describe a ritual consisting in making noise with cooking instruments to celebrate newly married or to make shame on people for examples.

But this electronic tune has nothing tribal except that it has united the underground Detroit scene with his particular sound.

Defense Remixes

friedrich.JPG

Two home-made remixes of The Ghost That Walks‘ Defense. The first one is a kind of fierce and glitchy techno track where the main loop is tortured to death, while the second takes on a darker edge and is relatively electro regarding the form.
The mixing has been rushed and is really weak, you’d better reduce the bass levels and turn up the volume a tad if you wish to hear anything.

The Ghost That Walks – Defense (Kernighan + Ritchie Remix 1) (2008)

The Ghost That Walks – Defense (Kernighan + Ritchie Remix 2) (2008)

All the best to The Ghost with his new record label.
