Herzschlag

Mau Mau – Herzschlag

I’ve played this new wave disco(ish) tune a lot this last year and i’ll promise you that every time the needle hits this groove the dancefloor sets on fire! By Michael Kemner and Wolfgang Spelmanns from D.A.F. fame

Magic de Spell – A body in a snare

This Greek new wave track has a very disco’ish feel to it. Pumping drums and suicidal lyrics. not bad huh?

Upliftingdisco Mix by KMTR

Let me introduce comrade Konstantin Timoshenko (aka KMTR, born in Kazakhstan, lives in Sofia/BG) – drummer, vinyl collector, theater composer, DJ, member of many electronic and dance projects and so on and so on… And, yes, he’s a great master of edits. My favorite one (except early Phoreski, of course).

KMTR’s complete profile. KMTR’s  re-edits.

KMRT made this mix specially for Overfitting Disco.

Twin Pigs

1983… it was a very good year. Even “Cocteau Twins” played mutated disco at that time.

Their third single “Peppermint Pig” (4AD, 1983) was produced by Alan Rankine, who just left the great new wave band “The Associates“.

First DM’s great single. This mix is made of 2 versions of song included in 12 ” single (Mute, 1982).

Eclipse Line

elunknown656817681-986861768781

Eclipse Line – [Unknown] (1987?)

Is it genuine? Is it a fake? Even if I’m personally sceptical about the claims, it’s a pure cosmic rocket anyway. Here’s what the man who kindly gave me a copy knows about it (the full track is in the link below):

Eclipse Line are reportedly a well-forgotten Soviet electronic band from Murmansk.

Little is known about them except that they enjoyed moderate success in their provincial Northern town circa 1987.

A handful of tracks remain the only evidence of the band’s existence. Recorded on a reel-to-reel, the only surviving Eclipse Line album was recently discovered by a music enthusiast and posted on a Russian rare tapes blog:

http://www.say2day.ru/content/nezagranitsa (the post is in Russian only)

The found tape was marked ‘Eclipse Line-87’, no track names or credits. The blogger, whose father owned the tape, named the tracks ‘Disarmament’, ‘Electric Lights’ etc, grabbing random words from his mid-80’s childhood to match the mood. The record has been mastered digitally from a tape – if you listen to it carefully you might notice ‘floating’ bpm which indicates the track can hardly have been recorded on a PC…

Best,

Andrey

In The Playtime

glowing_sea_anemone.jpg

A.T.R.O.X. – In The Playtime
(Contempo, 1984)

Nautical Italo-wave fun, very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, amazing synth melodies you want to float away on.

A truly unique and beautiful piece of music from my most listened-to record of 2008.

Ginny Can’t Be Serious

Ginny – Can’t Be Serious (1985)

Ginny Clee was a serious singer and party headbanger. Here’s a good new wave sound produced by Chris Baylis & Hugh Murphy with a light touch of disco.

This is the original song covered more recently by A Mountain Of One (related post). I didn’t even know that and this song is sooo chilling out.

Unveiling The Secret

Psyche – Unveiling The Secret (1986)

This song appears on the socalled 2nd LP from the cult band Psyche (with Darrin C. Huss).

A tune like EBM with a mysterious atmosphere that makes me groove for sure.

Art Fine – Dark Silence (Vocal) (1985)

This music by M. Fontana and Fabrice Bellini is so creepy. I love this obscure face of italo.

O

infiniteaxq.jpg

I sincerely believe it’s a great song. On the one hand with its roots both tied in Italian Synthpop and slow paced New Wave, but also heading forward with a rather modern twist.

Nevertheless, and since it is home-made I’m in the end no judge, criticisms welcome and even required.

Reagan + Carter – O (Part 1) (2007)

Reagan + Carter – O (Part 2) (2007)

The Ghost That Walks was kind enough to provide me a smashing remix. Everything has been destructured, distorted and twisted in order to create a true killer track! All Hail The Ghost!
