Summer mix

Summer mix by Jussi

This one clocks 46 minutes and kicks off with Jackie Robinson’s Moving Like A Superstar, played using 2 long versions. Then it’s on to stuff like Bob-A-Rela: Spend The Night, classic holiday moods like Disco Instrumental: Mexico, Crackers: Superbimbo, Rudy Stone: Bump Your Baby and Desirée: Mi Amore. Plus Paisano by Tschou Tschou Combo. At one point it goes for some reason into a suitably bombastic disco version by Button Down Brass of Avenues And Alleyways, the theme from the cult tv show The Protectors. – As always, nothing but real vinyl here with no CAA (computer aided anything).

Seduction Eurodisco mix

seduction eurodisco mix
This one actually dates way back to 2007 when it was thrown together to advertise a party in Paris. The tracks were quite fresh five years ago, trust me. Now of course there’s nothing here you haven’t heard before…or is there?

Oskar Panizza & other grooves

Oskar Panizza & other grooves

Grabbed my (original!:-)) copy of the Michael Bundt album Just Arrived Cosmic Kid from 1977 and started to think what would go well with the strange three-part The Brain Of Oskar Panizza, with it’s two beat-less pauses, odd noises and applause effects. Perhaps some pulse stuff from the former DDR? Then again, Anssi and Carlo had given me a few tunes that might sound interesting in this context as well. But surely not The Love Unlimited Orchestra? Had to try that, too. – Not really a mix, more like a seque of sounds.

In the picture: Colette Justine who sung Beautiful Dreamer originally during a performance art show in a window of a department store. This was in Vienna in 1979.

What did the dreamer see? There was Hot Volcano, Sahara doing I Just Wanna Dance, Event Horizon, bits and pieces, some Leroy Vohn plus Albinoni’s Adagio as arranged by Jean Musy.

EXCLUSIVE: Flemming Dalum – “Out of this world” mix

Flemming-heads-SUN-GLASSES

(FD as seen by Kid Machine aka Mark Wilkinson)

Easter time once again, and disco lovers know there’s nothing better than turning to Overfitting Disco for the sweetest surprises!

We are immensely proud to host the biggest italo legend of the galaxy, aka The King of the Cut, mister Flemming Dalum. Flemming has a wide cult following as a DJ, as he was “there” at “the time”, living the original italo disco scene when it was on, dancing in the tube at Rimini’s legendary Altromondo club and spinning his candies taken directly at Il Discotto and Merak shops during his regular trips to Italy. He’s a living encyclopaedia of italo, as well as one the world’s biggest completist of the italo-disco genre itself, with a 25.000+ vinyl collection just devoted to a single music style.

His legendary mixtapes – published in ultra limited releases – have marked an essential contribution in the italo disco renaissance of the latest decade, released by lables such as Panama Racing, Cyber Dance, Centre Neptune, Mothball. Flemming remixed rare and overlooked italo gems, now essential classics such as Calice, Ghecko, Alex Valentini, S.C.O.R.T.A., Body Electric, Night System, D. Carred and his latest effort, a remix of the minimal ’84 new wave tune by italian band Neurox, “A Raving Night”, released in 2012 on David Vunk’s Moustache.

“Out of this world” is a hard rocking mix with exclusive tracks, an uber cool selection of unreleased tunes and mega rare obscure italo 7-inchers for the hardcores!

La Malaguena minimix

La Malaguena minimix

Possessed by the fuzzy images of old Jesus Franco vhs tapes like Aberraciones Sexuales De Una Rubia Caliente I just had to throw down a mix (of sorts) with stuff like La Malaguena by Momo Yang, Sangre Negra by Ulvioni’s Show and Coimbra by Jose Calvario. Luna and Jo Bisso had to be included as well as Franco films were often Spanish-French-Italian-German co-productions.

It’s White Room by Rudy, in between a couple of other tracks cause I felt it needed an ambiance around it for some reason.

7″ mix

Jussi Kantonen – 7-inch Mix

The picture says it all: recently posted tracks thrown into a mix, with some new stuff. Titles include Go: Feast Movable, Jean Claude Petit: Congo Rythm, Soul Chonwa, the Hot Blood version of Le Chat, Cathy Lee: You Are The Song, Sam Clarte Orchestra: Soul Party/Sansoo Dancing ( with a quick snatch of Biddu Ork’s Blue Eyed Soul in the end) , Doverman Gang: Buldog (sic), Spinach Power: Funky Disco Princess, Magical Space Ship: Disco Ultra Seven and the vocal version of Bill Butler’s Notteke 79 Movin’. – Note the infuriating, sticky, impossible-to-handle plastic see-thru sleeves of the Japanese sevens.

Fourth Birthday Report – The 12-hour-long recording is here!

Tada!
If you’ve missed our blog’s birthday party – originally aired on Fri. Dec. 30, or just want to listen to the DJ sets once more, the recordings of the 12-hour Disco marathon night are now available for download.

As usual, we’d like to wholeheartedly thank the DJs who accepted the invitation, and, of course, all the radio listeners, who, we hope, enjoyed this night as much as we did.

Note: Please, favour the torrents over the direct links if you can.

Compared to the previous birthday reports, the DJ sets for download are (almost) pristine material, without any of the cosmetic changes or jingles or heavy re-mastering that were added during the original broadcast. No tracklisting this time around, sorry.

P.S. The previous birthday recordings are available here, there, and finally here.

The Real Spirit of the 80s – Part 1

A bit late but here comes our last Spaced Out Disco Session. As we’re pretty busy at the moment in case of launching our own label “Emerald & Doreen” we couldn’t pack new sounds in this session. We gonna present you the first part of an 80s set we were playing at a party which took place some months ago. Hope you enjoy that though.

Ringo Comic Mix

Jussi Kantonen – Ringo Comic Mix

The cutting edge Barcelona comic book artist Anselm Solsona asked me for a musical impression of an upcoming work of his. The hero of the surreal story is two real life characters combined into an imaginary one: the French singer Ringo and Evel Knievel, an American stuntman and motorcycle racer. It’s 1974. Ringo will be seen taking two women into his trailer immediately after winning a race, doing coke with Dean Martin (playboy movie star and the singer of the 60’s cha cha hit “Sway”), becoming a recording artist and falling for the gorgeous Sheila Sensation. After a terrible accident that castrates him, he is transported to the Soviet Union to be subjected to weird experiments, including a bionic penis transplant. He then emerges as a demented cyborg cycle fiend in motor mania overdrive. And there is more.

The 47 minute vinyl mix is there only to provide semi-abstract mood-setting background music for the comic so a tracklist is not a good idea. You can however detect titles like Dragster by The Amazing Bingo Band, the disco version of Sway by Bobby Rydell, Go Away Charly by The Carla Sound Orchestra, Dance On by Costa Tournas, Midnight Game by Midnight Gang, So Excited by Mandy B Jones, Petrol Pop by Michel Magne, the grandiose Amoco by Alain Barriere plus Latin Lover by Calderon to highlight the bionic dick sequence.

Notteke mix

Jussi Kantonen – Notteke Mix

Got quite a few comments focusing on the Bill Butler track Notteke 79 Movin’. So, here’s a mix built around it. I have no idea what the title means apart from the fact that it’s something Japanese. Could it be a Notteke has to do with Sukebans, vicious girl gang members? Think Kaji Meiko, Sugimoto Miki and Ike Reiko escaping from a convent school – where girls get hoisted over the altar like they do in the 70’s exploitation classic School Of The Holy Beast – and going on a rampage of cigarette smoking, wine drinking, motorcycle racing, wild dancing in psychedelic discothéques, plus kicking the shit out of gangsters!

Ennio Morricone – Seduction And Magic
Juan Carlos Calderon: Dies Irae
Saga: Compromise
Gene Farrow: Can You Keep It Up All Night
Slim Pezin & Pierre-Alain Dahan: Kuzi-Kuza
Bill Butler: Notteke 79 Moving
Arp Life: Motor-rock
H.B.P Mix: Light My Fire
J.C. Riffaud: Emotion Life And Happiness
I Romans: Squadra Speciale
Groupo C: Culto De Amor
Katunga: El Baile Del Grillo
Analisi 911: Disco Magic
Charlyne: So Sweet
Leroy Holmes: Emotions

Top of the Pops mix

Jussi Kantonen – Top of the pops mix

Long time no mix and it’ll take a few days more till I get around making one, as my mixer broke. Got a new Numark but turned out they had stuffed a wrong, inferior model into the box. Meanwhile, re-discovered an old recording of mine from years ago, filled with stuff now obviously familiar to most. A sort of sing-along, top-of-the-pops kind of thing with faves like Cerrone and Daisy Daze. A bit of Planet O could sound inspiring again, like while doing the laundry?

Death Syndicate

How’d you like it: joyful and brainless disco songs mixed with the short audio scenes as if taken from B movies.

For example, a scene of death while shaving:

Bloody Shaving

Disgustingly, isn’t it? Or the intro with an incident with the tommy-gun:

I’m from Syndicate

It was the most popular cassette compilation in early 80-s in Soviet Union. It came behind the Iron Curtain from somewhere out of East Asia with an unknown soviet sailor. Soon cassette crossed the country from the Far East to western borders and infected every cassette-player on the way.

Watch your Winamps!

1. Billy Ocean – Stay The Night (3:45)
2. La Flavour – Mandalay (6:10)
3. Lipps Inc. – Funky Town (7:45)
4. Ottawan – You’re O.K. (5:13)
5. Roberta Kelly – Kabaka Shaka (4:31)
6. Massara – Margherita (2:33)
7. Spargo – You And Me (4:11)
8. T.H.P. – Good To Me (6:56)
9. Gilla – Tom Cat (3:50)
10. Gepy & Gepy – Body To Body (7:20)
11. Dan Perlman – You Know Me, I Know You (3:35)
12. The Whispers – And The Beat Goes On (3:35)
