Do The Zru

Zru Vogue – Do The Zru

This was one of too many records I had in the bag(s) at the NYE gig. Even though I lusted to play it beforehand the timing just didn’t feel right… until the party was over and I got a little lost in the garden watching peoples breath condensing in the cold winter air. It was too late. Nothing lasts forever or actually a few hours more would have been just enough. Maybe next time then.

First things

Gunter Schickert – Puls

Sandy Bull – Blend

Gunter’s beats are from his 1979 album Uberfällig. Hipster icon Sandy Bull’s track is from the 1963 lp Fantasias For Guitar And Banjo. Both useful as set openers.

Space Factory

Space Factory – Space Dance
Determined, severely minimalistic bleeps from France, 1978. I’ll be discussing this kind of forgotten sounds during my interview for the Swedish television on the 20th. They are filming in London, Frankfurt and Stockholm, and the program will apparently be sold to all of Europe. Keep your eyes open. – Of course, I’ll be promoting Overfitting at every given change.

Get On Down

Remove everything except the bassline from this already fairly minimalist tune:

King Sporty & The Root Rockers – Get On Down (1979)

And you get this monster electro hit:

Connie Case – Get On Down (1982)

Slipping out of the dark, Julius Caesar is greeted by Reginus, the manager of a very special place.

Arrival At The Library

Snake: I want to meet this Duke.
Cabbie: You can't meet the Duke,
are you crazy?
Nobody wants to meet the Duke!
You meet him once and then you're dead!
Snake points the gun more insistently.
Tough.
EXT. BRAIN'S BUILDING -- NIGHT

Co-Co Boy

elixir-red-bra-flat.jpg

This minimalist but very funky tune was the main theme for the strip tease sequences in a French TV show called Co-Co Boy. It was broadcast throughout the early 80s on saturday on prime time (!) television – only female topless mind you, no full frontal nudity. But yes: it was not restricted to adult viewing only.

Jean Schultheis – Playmate (1982)

This theme is in fact the instrumental-only section of another song, named Bébé Bop, from the same artist and released the same year. This specific version has been a bit slowed down compared to the original, some extra moanings and whispered vocals have also been added on top.
