Traum Und Wirklichkeit

faustindertasche_die_003_480

Satin Whale – Traum und Wirklichkeit

German krautrock band Satin Whale composed the soundtrack for the 1978 movie “Die Faust in der Tasche (Fist in the pocket)”. Quite good record all the way through. Lot’s of synth action!

Birth Control – The Rescue

Relentlessly driving fast 1979 sci-fi krautrock disco hybrid got quite a reaction at the club last Friday night.

Special message to all who are Disco

bday2015_1

Ben Thomas – Sooleymon

Midnight Movers Unltd – Follow The Wind pt 1.

Face it. You’re no saint so indulge to the max in your vices at least once a year. In the evening of 16th of January A.D. 2015, give in to gluttony, lust and greed and celebrate with us all that is excessive, over-the-top and brilliant in the music we love, for hours and hours. Italo, funk, disco and beyond. Rare tracks and anthems. It’ll all be there to really wallow in, from exotic, sophisticated hothouse flowers to indescribable, sick sonic funghi from hell. From deep powerful vocals by mighty Divas to the flimsiest sighs from young girls who look like they’re sixteen but act like they’re twenty-one. No holds barred. Top tunes from a top lineup. The event will be re-broadcast on the 17th in case it’ll all become too much for you – though of course too much of a good thing is the best thing ever.

Gamma Rays

Birth-Control-Pills

Birth Control – No Shade Is Real

Birth Control – Gamma Rays

As we well know quite a few early seventies Krautrockers got The Vibe already. First track is not completely danceable but contains major passages and a mysterioso eastern feel. Ready for an edit perhaps? The second is more seriously four-on-the-floor.

Life Is Real Only Here

satelitten_situation

Life Is Real Only Here

Should you have a soft spot for pulse disco – and by your choice of reading & listening material we take our chances – the works of Wolfgang Bock and Andre Ceccarelli should prove to be interesting as both provide delicate yet authoritative soundscape designs. The opening track Cycles by Bock and the following Life Is Real Only Here by Ceccarelli are extremely sophisticated explorations of space, texture and structure, set to a gently throbbing and definitely danceable beat. I also added a couple of other relating cuts of equally peaceful/agitated palette and subject matter.

Modern & Dynamo

Turku beats

This summer’s do-or-die events of the Overfitting Kind are getting closer. The first date is Saturday July the 21th. I’ll be doing the Turku Modern fest (on the coast of Finland that is) and spinning after Loud E at Donna. The same night Anssi kicks off at Dynamo a few blocks away around midnight and I’ll be playing there that night as well. Next on the agenda: Camp Cosmic in Sweden.

Gunter Schickert – Puls

Sandy Bull – Blend

Gunter’s beats are from his 1979 album Uberfällig. Hipster icon Sandy Bull’s track is from the 1963 lp Fantasias For Guitar And Banjo. Both useful as set openers.

Dance Macabre

bomarzo.JPG

VC-People – Dance Macabre (1980)

Another one from Germany – a moody dark disco track of a krautrock LP “Mystery of Bomarzo“.

Recorded at Emulab Electronic Music Laboratory Munich, with synthesizers from Roland, Oberheim, Moog and Sequiental Circuits. Sequencers from Roland ABZ Zet-Electronics. Vocoder from Syntovox. Music computer from Fairlight using Fairlight’s Music-composition language. Sound-recording and mixing by Klaus Netzle and  Hans Mühlbauer. Digital informations have been used for sound-generation and as control-functions for analog systems. Sehr impressive, ja?

There’s another lesser dance tune “Moonless Night” but rest of the LP is basically crap, vocal tracks with an occult narrative of some sort.

Padded Cell

padded-cell.jpg

Padded Cell is a british duo who made an interesting crossover between the genres. Electro, house, disco, rock, jazz, nothing can stop them to do the music they like.

Padded Cell – Signal Failure (2005)

Padded Cell – Picadilly Line Strut (2005)

Well then make your own mind and watch out for the forthcoming album “Night Must Fall” in May 2008. I recommend “Moon Menace” to listen on their page. (more…)

Hands In The Dark

watwiljevanmeqz5.jpg

Produced in 2005 but only properly released in 2007 by the dark italo ‘revivalist’ record label Italians Do It Better, Hands In The Dark is a cool track to relish on headphones. A perfect mood enhancer.

Chromatics – Hands In The Dark

It is in fact a kind of strange and unlikely mashup:
the lyrics and the melody are originally from
R.L. Crutchfield’s Dark Day – Hands In The Dark (1979)

while the instrumental part is sampled from
Chromium – Caribbean Air Control (1979)

College

College is yet another member of the Valerie crew (see The Outrunners and Maethelvin) and is as talented as his fellow colleagues. The track in preview is simply HUGE.

Minimal but catchy, repetitive but obsessing: a very good ‘nu krautrock’ entry. I can’t stop thinking of John Carpenter’s bassline and leads when listening to this
