Adrienne Edwards e Gli Spin – Mystic Night

sex shop

Pure Italian disco perfection in its 1979 highest form of insanity coming from the ultra tiny ASA label. There’s a moment – you’ll hear that – when male and female voices melt perfectly together, and the drums, the bassline and the “incredibile”, “eccitante”, “ohh what ecstasy” moanings will directly teleport you to a 70s club, full of smoke, sleaze and sex. Be aware: this has never been an easy catch and when around has always been very pricey.

Miro – Safari of Love

bruciaragazzobrucia

Vedette has been one of the greatest and long lasting (active until 1986) italian labels, run by maestro Armando Sciascia since 1962. Home of the famous Azoto releases among others, has incredible overlooked gems in its catalog, like this one from 1977. Miro is the moniker used here for an obscure release by italian musician Mario Baldoni and produced by Allan Goldberg, of Slang fame…..possibly the rarest Baldoni/Goldberg release along with the LP with this track, and being 1977 a cult year for Disco – too – won’t help lowering the price tag…..one sure thing: this track is a bomba!

Roy Pisanelli – Playback

roy label

Another Ciao Records catalogue hidden gem from 1979: a vocal disco stomper of the highest order!

If you search for this on YouTube, take care: you could come across Roy Pisanelli in person dancing on a very trendy – at the time – “multiply effect”. Ah, and notice that the b side *has* the lovely instrumental version…..

Adolf Stern – More…I like it

stern

I’ve always had an obsession with this this song!
For those who want to clearly understand which kind of productions the Ciao label in Italy was churning at the time, well, this is a perfect example from 1978.
To my knowledge Adolf Stern’s “More …. i like it” has always been extremely in demand, and if you listen to the infectious basslines and the distorted voice, you’ll clearly understand why this sleazy dark disco production packs every dancefloor…….This has been published as a 7 inch only, but there are promos 12″ out there sporting this song with two other tracks. Part of the Ciao catalogue is still relatively obscure and every new discovery has always a mystic touch……enjoy! The 12″ sound quality is terrible, get the superloud 7″ with the thrilling cover art. UPDATE: The name behind the moniker was revealed thanks to a direct question on youtube: Adolf Stern is a moniker for Niko Papathanassiou, brother of Vangelis, who was involved in some progressive rock productions as well as some dance related project and collaborating with Chrisma for their “Amore” single.  The flipside is a beast, too!

Giorgia Lauda – Mandolino mandolino

tittytwistedgiorgia

One more italian long-forgotten hot babe for your pleasure and……..I can’t tell you how much i totally ADORE this tune!

This comes from the vaults of the essential italian Discopiù label, “Mandolino mandolino” (uncensored cover up here as you see) is a 1978 total masterpiece, and one of the very few disco tracks entirely sung in italian too. Not Giorgia’s voice on this release, a typical use of the era was to just have a perfect match with a sexy cover, a dance tune and some backsingers actually able to sing a tune in a studio.

As far as I know Giorgia did just a handful of singles, including the highly sought-after italodisco single “Taci”, German folks should also check her 1984 hit: “Jeder muss sein leben”.

This one has the perfect balance between a melancholic feel and a mad pulsing beats coupled with infectious voice, the whole result really drives me insane….if anyone is interested in having the transcript of the lyrics just let me know…..copies are still around over the net for cheap, I warmly suggest you get them before the hunt begins!

Gloria – Ping Pong Space

gloriagatefold

“Italian babes” serie, continued: here it comes Gloria (Piedimonte).

A one hit wonder starlette that made three singles back in the days. “Ping Pong Space”, the only one which actually had some airplay, was the opening soundtrack of the popular fiction “Il Commissario Verrazzano” (Deadly Chase). This 7″ from 1978 appears to be selling for quite a lot of money on the market, though it is relatively obscure. I guess you still can be lucky enough to land yourself a copy for cheap on ebay. As far as i know it is one of the very few Durium releases which sported a (very nice indeed) gatefold sleeve. On the flipside of the single there is the instrumental version, which is quite a good reason to look for this one. Gloria did another very nice disco single in 1978, “Chi sei?”, arranged by Celso Valli plus an italodisco minor hit on the small Gualtiero Gatto’s “Gattocicova” label, “Ma che bella serata”, in 1983.

Superman Supergalattico

mmsg686818148148145-8681681681-98811

An (ex-?) pornstar singing and praising the super powers of a super-galactic superman – or something like that. You get the pitch. IMO the vocoder work is quite nice though.
