Give Me The Night

fafgmtn711b5868171 I don’t know whether it’s a mistake on the record sleeve but it does sound almost like the instrumental version of the A side: Give Me The Night, with a different name though. (Or are my ears tired?)

Facts & Fiction – Supernova (1986)

(Please try not to laugh too loud)

Popcorn

mm571733235416871Magic Men – Popcorn (Dub Version) (1983)

I’ve spared you the annoying Popcorn melody in this sample but it’s in the full song actually. For a clean and trimmed 7 minute long version of this tune, without the notorious gimmick, check out the edit by The Robot Scientists.

Trying It On

651145143514146411325135.jpg The winning Italo Disco recipe:

  1. Stick with the cheapest beatbox you can find,
  2. Use a falsetto voice that sounds like a bad joke,
  3. Focus all your efforts on the melody to make it sweet and catchy.

Serve it fresh (or not) and have fun.

Richie – Trying It On (1983)

It seems to have been pressed in ultra-low quantities. This recording comes from a recent white label vinyl with almost no info on it. I don’t know who is this Richie but he is good.

EDIT: the credits were wrong and are now fixed, thanks Scarface.

Night Shift

Night Shift

Den Haan – Night Shift (2008)

The Glasgow-based band Den Haan produced this funny tune for the underground label Dissident. They keep a pure old school italo style just adding their own electro touch.

Thanks to the Keytars and Violins blog for sharing.

Stay tuned for their forthcoming “Release The Beast
(listen on their profile)

Welcome To Tomorrow

bigchip.jpg

Not recent at all, but it could have been written nowadays as well. Future-proof, in a way.

Ellison Chase – Welcome To Tomorrow (1983)

BTW The great Beat Broker gives away his own edit for download over there, so give it a proper listen. The original has been slightly “updated” with a new bassdrum, and some sections have been a bit chopped-up too.

Polygamy Boys – Wake Up (2002)

This Bunker-ish tune, the Boys‘ first release on “The Sixth Reich Pax Amerikkkana” B-side, is really bangin’. The few lyrics are quite fun BTW for a protest song…

La Serenissima

rondo3.jpg

Rondò Veneziano – La Serenissima (1982)

It must be the most popular hit by this chamber orchestra led by the composer Giampiero Reverberi. Certainly not a masterpiece but the melody is very nice… and the following recent “covers” are even more entertaining IMHO:

The Bloody Beetroots – We Are From Venice (2007)

The “in da hype” masked Italians from Bloody transform it into a distorted anthem. While Riton as a side-project keeps it slow and hypnotic adding repetitive vocals.

Eine Kleine Nacht Musik – La Serenissima (2008)
