So Evil (Close To The Edge)

a-195415-1130274175zz.jpg

A.I.M. – So Evil (Close to the Edge) Instrumental
A.I.M. – So Evil (Close to the Edge) Tomboy Twist

A.I.M. is a quite anonymous project by the producer Tony Carasco (Klein & M.B.O.).

Original release in 1984 it’s been compiled in 2006 for “Confuzed Disco: A Retrospective Of Italian Records” with a punchy house remix by Tomboy.

It’s a kind of dark synthpop with a light taste of disco.

The End

10945790_gal.jpg These are two remarkable Disco remakes of John Carpenter‘s original soundtrack for Assault On Precinct 13

Although they were not the work of the master (but of Ralf Henning, a composer specialised in the adaptation of successful OSTs to the dancefloor), the two versions in preview were first released under Carpenter’s own name in 1982.
I don’t know whether J. Carpenter gave his approval and this is actually a complete different story.

The Splash Band – The End (Disco Version) (1984)

The Splash Band – The End (Sound Version) (1984)
(The track name comes from the German title of the movie: Das Ende.)

For comparison purpose, the original score from 1976:

Cybernetic Love

1987-1.jpg

A huge ‘classic’ from 1983, released on the same record label as every other Zito & Favilli‘s productions; it also implies that this track sounds way ahead of its time.

The other side of the impressive Stop: similar, but different.

B.W.H. – Livin’ Up (1983)

The record has been recently repressed in 2004 and is now pretty widely available, hopefully.

Not Love

blackhole.jpg I’m sure this track is used for some kind of robot mating dance.

It is maybe not love but it makes robots horny, I’m positive about that.

I’m Hungry

51w4ft-xajl.jpg “Hey, it’s fun, you gotta cook a meal for everyone.”

The non-sense lyrics couldn’t be more uninspired.

The song is however finely lifted by a stuttering (and so vintage) Electro bassline and surprisingly the recipe works. Maybe not on everyone but, hey, it’s fun…

silhouette.jpg I’m sure you will really love it: this is honestly the best of Italo Disco.

Not surprisingly it is signed by the genuine Valerie Dore band.

Heatstroke

glen.jpg

The very first track from the man Man Parrish. Just a little before he definitely moved on to more Electro Funk-infused sounds, he produced this jewel of cosmic Hi-NRG.

Man Parrish – Heatstroke (1982)

As a funny trivia point, this track was in fact solely created (and anonymously used) as a ‘background action’ soundtrack for a gay porn flick. It was only after being bootlegged on vinyl that M. Parrish finally got his first proper record deal.

‘Cause I Need You ‘Cause I Love You

1193pin-up-girl-on-scale-posters.jpg An Italo single pressed in very limited quantities on Discotheque Queen’s Records.

A perfect instance of the Italian sound of 1984, which is retrospectively and IMHO maybe the best year for Italo Disco.

Magazine 60Don Quichotte (No Estan Aqui) (1984)
(Listen to the extended version)

This french pop band released first many covers from classic 60’s slows and others. Then “Costa Del Sol” album for the label CBS was released in 1986 including this easy song. Absolutely funny for me, I like it like that!

Note: you may recognize a guitar sample used recently by Will I Am “I Got It From My Mama” (video)

Here’s the super cheap video clip of the first single by this famous italo singer.

Ken Laszlo has made international hits as “Tonight” and “Don’t Cry” all compiled on his album released in 1987. (just for fun or…) xD

A pure product of the late-80s Italo Disco industry. Do they all sound almost the same during this specific period? Nonetheless fun (somewhat).
