Gotta Go

6518781.jpg

One of my favourite tunes coming from the repertoire of Giancarlo Meo‘s girlfriend (see this post for other tracks), and musically fairly different from anything she has ever released.
I still believe the rolling bassline sounds really close to Imagination‘s BTW.

Vivien Vee – Gotta Go (1983)

Do I Do

871192544.jpg

Thunderous piece of funky music, 100% made in Italy.

Maurice Mc Gee – Do I Do (1983)

Lead by the guy behind the catchy Mrs Moon and who is also known for his work on Mr Flagio’s Take A Chance. Great pedigree.

Golden Cage

Love this one… from the low-key piano touch to the subtle bassline. Everything is IMO really well balanced.

Aax Donnell & Eric Malone – Golden Cage (1985)

Avventurieri

ill029_mueller_buccan_lg.jpg

I’ve patiently browsed almost all the tracks released by Jo Squillo in the 80s and the 90s, from her debuts with the Kandeggina gang to the pop collaborations with Sabrina: IMO no other track from hers has the tremendous appeal of this specific one.

Jo Squillo Eletrix – Avventurieri (7” Mix) (1983)

(“buccaneers” appears to be a rough translation of “avventurieri”, I wish I could understand Italian because I’m quite intrigued by the lyrics)

Baby Come On

If only every pieces of Funk could ever be like this… 100% cheese-free, just a trimmed-down and sensual electronic groove.

James Otis White Jr. is also part of The Armed Gang whose producer is no one less than Sangy, the other half of Firefly.

David Zed

sad_robot_by_natdatnl.jpg Yet another production from the Easy Going duo. This Mister Zed appears to be some kind of a comedian but I’ve never heard of him before.

Càpita

darcie08.jpg

One of the few Fabio Frizzi‘s side-projects and indeed quite far from his usual soundtrack material. Written by the man himself and produced in partnership with his younger brother Fabrizio.

D.J. Look – Càpita (1983)

I got this one for cheap at a used record shop and I’m trying hard to gather some more limited pressings from Frizzi at a reasonable price. If you happen to sell for example the Hot Cha-Cha EP don’t hesitate to contact me…

Another Life

travolta-saturday-night_std.jpg One of the most incredible smash hits from the über brilliant Disco-act Kano (no, not that Grime poser 😉 the one and only Kano), namely Another Life, and released in 1983. Some mere 20 years afterwards, the house tunes that sample it are even as outstanding as the original version. True dancefloor killers.

“Another life another lover, where in the world do lonely dreams ever go?” So incredibly dazzling and catchy that it’s impossible to get it out of your head.

Kano – Another Life

Two different portions of the original song sampled or re-created, two different artists and styles, two insane House reduxes.

Lifelike & Kris Menace – Discopolis (Alan Braxe Remix) (2006)

Junior Jack – Life (2007)

Dancing In The Street

Peter Jacques Band, a seminal band in the eighties, released in 1985 the Dancing In The Street LP, a perfect blend of American and Italo Disco. Ecstatic.

Peter Jacques Band – All Right Let’s Go

Peter Jacques Band – This Night

Peter Jacques Band – Drives Me Crazy

On a side note, it is worth noting that Change – Let’s Go Together is actually the exact same song as the first one. Jacques Fred Petrus is the producer of both bands.
