Pauvre Enfant

Kevin Dester – Pauvre Enfant

Kevin Dester – Eva

Was it an accident or did she deliberately choose death? With references to “alcohol” and “la mort” this 1983 track is very serious in any case. The flip is more lightweight, seemingly focusing on events before the tragedy.

Among the names credited on the sleeve is Bernard Torelli.

This is a cover version of Herb Alpert’s “Rise”. Very impressive strange sound effects. Gabriel Yared plays the piano in this track.

Scientologist Goes Disco

Richard Yared – I Like You

This track is off the Success album by Richard Yared, recorded as a hommage to L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

How to start to gradually free your immortal alien soul – the Thetan – from the empty shell that is your body on earth? The first steps are a series of tests with an E-Meter, an invaluable aid to measuring your mental state. These are followed by the offical Purification Rundown detoxification processes at one of the countless Churches and Missions around the world. After a contribution of approximately 250 000 American dollars you can then aim at the highest Thetan levels, offered at Scientology’s Advanced Organizations at Los Angeles, Sydney, East Grinstead and Copenhagen, for actual immortality and dancing in outer space with Tom Cruise, Isaac Hayes, John Travolta, Juliette Lewis and the fabulous Priscilla Presley! Having possibly been subjected to beatings, forced abortions and rape are by that time all forgotten, of course.

Shadows in a Disco

Superguitar – Shadows in a Disco

Impossible but apparently true – this adrenaline rocket of pure disco sound that explodes on contact has not been given a proper post here before. A snippet from the medley sequing together hits by the British band The Shadows got included ages ago in a mix, though.

The 7″ from 1977 is easy to get but the full long version combining the two sides only seems to exist inside a “Disco Sound” 3 album box out in in France.

Doar Noi Doi

Vei Fi Mereu Mai Drag

Three more cuts from the 5T album, my personal fave of the month. Tangoul Dragustei is an improved version of Jinny and the Flamboyants “Cumparsita Dance” and check out the other two covers as well – familiar tunes spiked with strong acid.

The one I actually should have submitted. A heroic intro, a mysterious midnight rendez-vous at the Oasis, a camel race to Akaba under the stars, and more in Brazil and ancient Africa.

California Gold long version

Marc Seaberg – California Gold album version

Size matters. If you like Marc’s seven which was posted here ages ago get the full twelve inches for a much more muscular experience. The 14:48 lp version from 1978 has long instrumental passages with twanging guitars and lots of wild west saloon ambiance, German style.

Eastern Doping

Way back in kindergarden, we were painting Misha, the mascot of ’80 Moscow Olympic Summer Games. I was allowed to finish mine at home, resulting in next days total disbelief of my nurse in my deepest affirmation I was helped by nobody. Nothing changed over the years, still the misjudged mastermind (or slick cheater?). Here is Italy’s homage to our furry friend.

Malvina and Veronika

Malvina & Veronika – Lazka Je Haluzka Ceresnova Opplavaj, Odid, Odcestuj

Off a 1977 album from Czechoslovakia containing two sides of medleys, with announcements and spoken engouragement typical of east block records of the era. The music is mostly horrific polkas but there are a couple of fine passages courtesy of Malvina and Veronika.
