Captain Future

181293467_b8a5022738_o.jpg Every thirty or twentysomething will easily remember this old anime, named differently according to the country that broadcast the show (e.g. Captain Future, Capitan Futuro or Capitaine Flam).

It is worth noting that every European country had its own version of the OST. While, in France for example, Jean-Jacques Debout (see previous post) recorded it, Christian Bruhn released his own version for the German market, in 1980.

Christian Bruhn – Gefahr
Christian Bruhn – Vor dem Start
Christian Bruhn – Durch den Weltraum nach Hause

This OST spawned countless remixes and cover versions. Some are o.k., others are really bad.

The original:
Christian Bruhn – Feinde greifen an
The remake:
Phil Fuldner – The Final (Chronovisor Mix) (1998)

The original:
Christian Bruhn – Space – Wind
The remake:
Wildchild – All Together (1996) – I should still have my Mokum T-shirt somewhere, cleanly packed…

Ginny Can’t Be Serious

Ginny – Can’t Be Serious (1985)

Ginny Clee was a serious singer and party headbanger. Here’s a good new wave sound produced by Chris Baylis & Hugh Murphy with a light touch of disco.

This is the original song covered more recently by A Mountain Of One (related post). I didn’t even know that and this song is sooo chilling out.

It’s getting hot in here ! (X-Rated) A warm and sunny sound for the winter coming. This is the original sexy hit from the ChakachasJungle Fever LP.

Kinkina‘s cover is not very different except principally the electronic production and different voices:

Kinkina – Jungle Fever (1982)

Kinkina – Jungle Fever (Megamix) (1987)

“Little” Louie Vega made also his own version (listen to the full track) to introduce the album “Elements Of Life” in 2004.

Zauberstab

Za ZaZauberstab (1982)
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=lD7QmKJ1LyQ

Peter La Bonté is Za Za. This is the 3rd single from the only album “Za Za” in 1982 on Blow Up.

Za Za – Zauberstab
Za Za – Zauberstab (instrumental)

Über kitsch and a quite funny tune ! A piece of the NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle) genre = the german new wave.

Note: “Zauberstab” meaning a magic wand for love so…

The german producer Florian Senfter (aka Zombie Nation, Splank!) covered this single in 2002 remixed one year later by Johannes Heil.

John Starlight – Zauberstab der Liebe (Johannes Heil Remix)

This song appears on Sylvester James‘ third LP “Step II” produced by Harvey Fuqua and released in 1978 on Fantasy.

That’s a fact: he was a real show man.  R.I.P. (biography)

It must be one of the best soulful disco songs ever!

Take A Chance

If you don’t know this massive track yet then it’s not too late: take a chance! (yes, I know, it’s lame)

Mr. Flagio – Take A Chance (Vocal) (1983)

Mr. Flagio – Take A Chance (Instrumental) (1983)

Edit: here is the first version, the vinyl rip is not flawless: the original “material” was quite damaged, sorry.

The End

10945790_gal.jpg These are two remarkable Disco remakes of John Carpenter‘s original soundtrack for Assault On Precinct 13

Although they were not the work of the master (but of Ralf Henning, a composer specialised in the adaptation of successful OSTs to the dancefloor), the two versions in preview were first released under Carpenter’s own name in 1982.
I don’t know whether J. Carpenter gave his approval and this is actually a complete different story.

The Splash Band – The End (Disco Version) (1984)

The Splash Band – The End (Sound Version) (1984)
(The track name comes from the German title of the movie: Das Ende.)

For comparison purpose, the original score from 1976:

Snake: I want to meet this Duke.
Cabbie: You can't meet the Duke,
are you crazy?
Nobody wants to meet the Duke!
You meet him once and then you're dead!
Snake points the gun more insistently.
Tough.

Cabbie parks the cab and he and Snake walk
up to a building.

Can’t Be Serious

cdcoverimage.jpg

AM1 – Can’t Be Serious (2006)

A Mountain Of One is an english band that doesn’t really fit a genre (not disco that’s why I hesitate…) between downtempo and psychedelism. Vintage sounds with a slow rhythm.

One of my picks of the year from their first EP
A Mountain Of One” in 2006 and compiled on the first album “Collected Works“.

This is in fact a cover of Ginny’s song back in the 80’s (related post).
