I Feel Electric

Rubies – I Feel Electric (2008)

The two californian ladys from the Rubies, an indie pop project, just released their first album. Nothing really exciting (for me) but still a sweet song yet. (more…)

Disco Machine

rand-corporation-1954-2.jpg
A projection from computer scientists in the 50s of what a ‘home computer’ might look like by the year 2004.

Electronic System is the pet project of Daniel Lacksman, better known as one third of the mighty Telex. With the likes of Giorgio Moroder or Kraftwerk (to name only the obvious ones), it is blatant that Dan and his MiniMoog helped shaping the sound of modern Electronic music as we know today. It is also crystal-clear that everything really skyrocketed during this specific period.

The Disco Machine LP was released in 1977, about one year before Telex was officially formed.

Electronic System – Cosmos Trip
Electronic System – Flight To Venus
Electronic System – Sailing To An Unknown Planet
Electronic System – Time Trip
Electronic System – Rock Machine

Tubular Affair

Samoa Park – Tubular Affair (1983)
(Listen to the “instrumental version”)

Samoa Park is a disco project led by the very influent executive producers R. Fraschini and S.Annunziata.”Monkey Latino” was the first medley released for the project (Listen to the complete track).

This “affair” is in fact a medley combining two Mike Oldfield‘s classics (same ambient sounds with disco rythm and effects). It was produced by Kandinsky and Multiplayback. (more…)

City Of The Dead

wintercentralpark.JPG

Yet other home-made tracks, meant to be ghastly this time. Some kind of a Post Apocalyptic Z Day setting mixed with a John Carpenter-infused soundtrack. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Entering Snake Pass

(artwork by Godspill)

Galaxy Toobin’ Gang are William T. Burnett & Eliot J. Lipp from New York. They’re part of the Crème Organization (discography here) a dutch label.

Their 1st release for Crème contains 8 tracks (unreleased yet…). Many influences in their music like Vangelis, John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno and more.

Here’s a wonderful piece a kind of future dub from space I found on another blog but I had to share:

Philharmony

Philarmony is a great experimental LP, full of pulsating Ambient keyboard hooks and with a very welcome exotic touch for every westerner. It’s been released in 1982 by the head man behind the incredible Yellow Magic Orchestra, but as a solo project from end to end.

The sample in preview is really mesmerizing and sounds quite surprisingly ‘modern’ for its age.

Haruomi Hosono – Platonic

More on YMO in a forthcoming ticket, soon.

The Ghost That Walks

Dark. Gritty. Abrasive. Grim. Detroit electro on a gloomy night. The Ghost That Walks is all of this… and more. This bloke produces quality music (and he’s a nice guy BTW), highly inspired by both John Carpenter and the old-school electro masters from the D.

The Ghost That Walks – The Machine (2007)

The Ghost That Walks – 7 Deadly Sons (2007)

The Ghost That Walks – Urban Jungle (2007)

He is still unsigned and struggles to get a record deal, what a shame.

Plants and Life

I don’t know much about Joël Fajerman except that he used to produce a lot of soundtracks for the French television during the eighties.

Anyway, his whole work is really inspiring. Just take a listen to the main theme for a French series called l’Aventure Des Plantes and make up your own opinion.

Joël Fajerman – Flowers Love (1982)

For all you curious people over here, Flowers Love has been played using a Prophet V (main theme and soundscape layers) and an Arp Odyssey (with a resonant filter, for the distinct ‘voice-like’ sound) and sequenced through a 16-step analog Arp sequencer.
