Emerald Forest

emerald

Junior Homlich – Emerald Forest End Titles / Eagle Break

John Boorman, the director of Point Blank, Zardoz and Deliverance, goes soft with a heavily didactic film about a father seeking his son in the Amazon jungle. Instead of encounters with gutmunching cannibals the film is concerned with the earth’s ecological balance, preserving the life of the rain forest and yes, the process of growing up to be a man.

The music works, though.

Azteca

azteca

Zorro – Azteca

Austrian space disco from an (to me anyway) unknown artist. This could very well look like a small private pressing, but the label (Rst records) have released too many records for it to qualify as private. A big surprise however is that it’s from ’86. I would have guessed 77/78 if i didn’t knew better. Anyway it’s a really cool track

(I Like) Sado-Music

sado

Sandy Samuel – (I like) Sado-Music

I didn’t even know it was a genre. But now that i know, i like it too!
Sandy Samuel kicks off a terrifying groovy track with an insisting chanting of how much she likes to whip the shit out of you. The drumming is also kind of fascinating. Don’t know if the drummer didn’t wanted a click to play along or maybe he just thought tightness was overrated. In that case i agree (on this tune anyway). You can hear the full version on my latest mix

Müzik ve Ben

evren

Claire Evren – Müzik ve Ben

To my surprise Vomatron didn’t post this one. So let me introduce this Turkish/French disco wonder from ’81. To my knowledge Claire was a Turkish singer living in France. The track is produced in France, but only released on the turkish Öncü label (the one that looks like a redbull logo). The lyrics are in french except the chorus which is turkish. What a blend!

Yes, it’s a version of Village People’s Can’t Stop The Music made in Thailand. Apart from “DescoDescoDesco” (sic) printed sideways on the cover, there’s no other text in English.

Disco General – Adiano To Proskefali

Ah, Greece, the birthplace of western civilization! The epic tragedies, the poetry, the history. The philosphers, the Olympics, the anal sex. Here’s a 1980 Creek tune, the title of which could have something to do with any of those things.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Twinkle

Sapan-Jagmohan – Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Bollywood tune from the ’83 album Pratibha . I find the vocals very charming on this one, contrary to my girlfriend who absolutely hate them. In that case an instrumental is also to be found on the album.

Someone Switched Me On

on

Usha – Someone Switched Me On

It’s the mighty Usha Uthup from India of course, here delivering an early eighties tune typically and totally out of sync with the zeitgeist of it’s era. This one comes on like something out of the psychedelic sixties, with added seventies disco vibe. Which, naturally, is a perfect combination.

Hollywood 7

05_Flatbed_1 - NOVEMBER

Alides Hidding – Hollywood 7

Can it be – no Hollywood 7 here at the Overfitting blog until now? High time for this tremendous Dutch disco drama from 1980, about the Omaha Beauty Queen who journeyed to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune in the Film Business. Only the cruel Fates of Tinseltown failed to recognize her talent and so, alone and disillusioned, she was soon forced to change gears and pursue a career in prostitution.

Special message to all who are Disco

bday2015_1

Ben Thomas – Sooleymon

Midnight Movers Unltd – Follow The Wind pt 1.

Face it. You’re no saint so indulge to the max in your vices at least once a year. In the evening of 16th of January A.D. 2015, give in to gluttony, lust and greed and celebrate with us all that is excessive, over-the-top and brilliant in the music we love, for hours and hours. Italo, funk, disco and beyond. Rare tracks and anthems. It’ll all be there to really wallow in, from exotic, sophisticated hothouse flowers to indescribable, sick sonic funghi from hell. From deep powerful vocals by mighty Divas to the flimsiest sighs from young girls who look like they’re sixteen but act like they’re twenty-one. No holds barred. Top tunes from a top lineup. The event will be re-broadcast on the 17th in case it’ll all become too much for you – though of course too much of a good thing is the best thing ever.
