Sørøversangen

Sebastian – Sørøversangen

Sørøversangen which means the Pirate song is from the danish translation of The Treasure Island “Skatteøen” Written and composed by Sebastian. This particular song is not the official version but from a Demo LP from Sebastian, released in 1990. Though i find Sebastian to be one of the finest songwriters from our little kingdom, this LP stands even further out for me since a lot of the songs which are commonly known is presented on a much more primitive way. Many of them with synth and drummachines. There’s some really great finds on this album and i thank my friend Kim for finding it to me! I raise my hand in the air and sing out loud “15 mand på en død mands kiste. Hey hoo og en hel flaske rom!” meaning “15 men on a dead mans coffin. Hey hoo and bottle full of Rum”

International Broadcasting Musicians – Computer Love

Being a teen in the 80’s I had a chance to play some “stimulating” computer games with Commodore 64. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try Interlude #99.

Trans Work – The Robots (remix)

A 1983 italo version of the famous tune. It’s available on a comp but for best results use the 12″ and give the bitch ketamine like I did.

Miha Kralj – Robot

This vinyl collection of previously unrealesed electronic tracks from 1981 till 2015 has been available on Discom label for a few months now.  As it’s a strictly limited realese do yourself a favour and get a copy right away. You will definitely not want to miss the two Miha Kralj masterpieces that open the album. Take a listen for proof. The rest of the material is less disco but interesting nevertheless, and that sleeve!  Your all-white neo-minimalist flat-cum-gallery living space demands you  frame it.

During the November of 2014 there were 6 minutes of sunshine in Mekrijärvi in Eastern Finland. Please take me there instead of the Balearics.

Another perfect package from Balkaton, with a visual rendition of the sound on the sleeve. The album is from 1980, the design timeless.

Scoretrack

mspSiegi Gruber – Scoretrack

What are the odds of finding something this weird from a Finnish flea? Kudos to DJ Piitu for his amazing digging skills and unselfish friendliness handing me this cosmic gem originating from Austria. Most perfect soundscape for fine-tuning the moods for things to come later in the night or those peak moments of slow motion disco.

Laundry

laundry

Hiromi Ota – Laundry

Hiromi Ota is a famous popular singer in Japan. She has many hits, such as “Momen No Handkerchief” “Kugatsu No Ame”. She changed her style in 80s. She chose an aggressive style influenced by New Wave, Funk and similar. She wore heavy makeup and ruffled her hair with grease. “Laundry” is included in her album “Tamatebako”. Prince (r.i.p.) would go to the Laundry.

Heart Beat

Fumio Miyashita – Heart Beat

Japanese Fumio Miyashita have made quite a lot ambient new age records in the 80s. I’m not too familiar with these but on the Earth LP there’s some really good cosmic downtempo tunes. Heart Beat is at the moment my favourite, but it can change. quality record!

The 80s

80s-5

The 80s

The 80s were about wearing black on black, not exhanging bodily fluids, forgetting about New York and flying to London instead. Grace Jones and Pedro Almodóvar made immense impact. The best fonts were by Neville Brody, seen in magazines like Face and the Arena. From France, Philippe Starck emerged as the new designer god. Communism fell, MTV was born and there was famine in Ethiopia. Nights were spent on watching horror movies in cinemas and ultraviolent Hong Kong gangster films on vhs but people still danced on weekends. Computers took over. Anything else…no, that’s pretty much it.

The sounds? Here’s some of the right stuff in a mix.

St John’s Ensemble – St John’s Cosmic Concerto

Heroic space themes from the USSR, from an unidentified album made in 1982. The lp has a generic sleeve with pictures of yellow flowers, no texts of any kind. Track number 3 has an intro apparently lifted off the St Johns tune from 1979.

The Unnamed Avenger Minimix 2

868633176837456.24563483486231

It’s essentially the spiritual sequel to The Unnamed Avenger Minimix. It’s still as strange and for sure totally lacks direction. This time we trade cosmic luchadores and Bollywood fighters for Afro super sentais. Sort of. Enjoy.

The Unnamed Avenger Minimix 2 (right-click to save)

Kudos to Jussi and Discotruper for part of the selection. (more…)

Disco Dance 7

mix

Icons Florinda Bolkan, Cat Stevens and Helmut Berger photographed outside a discothéque. It can’t be Le Sept in Paris as there was no canopy to announce the club at 7 Rue St Anne, just an anonymous black door. It’s not the Voom Voom either in Juan Les Pins judging by the clothes they’re wearing as nobody went there off season. Perhaps what we’re seeing is the entrance of the famous Piper club in Rome or the Audium in Madrid?
