Feeling Dizzy

It seems centuries have passed since my last post in this blog. But the disco bug has never left me … and my wallet. Among the records i found this winter, there is one that i think deserves to be posted here. It is a French 7″ of 1980, produced by Jean Lahcene, under the name of Roll-Mops. It contains the songs Cosmic Trip on A-side, and Feeling Dizzy on B-side. But, it’s the second that, i think, deserves more attention. The voice is of Serge Lamy, who in 1982 would have recorded the 7″ containing the song Ça Tourne, a spicy pop funk with latin veins. In short, enjoy!

Love in Naples

AtypicalstreetinNaplesItaly1978

I have just come back from two days around the Naples area. I had not really the time to do some crate digging also because , as every time i go there, i was enchanted by the maze of narrow streets and ancient buildings of the old town. I have, however, promised to return soon, and devote only looking for some disco rarities produced in the Neapolitan area. Inspired by this recent trip, i fished from my collection of vinyls, a piece from the musical “Musikiller “, which was staged in Rome in 1982, directed by Sandro Pochini and interpreted by Gli Immorali (The Immorals) company. The musical was recorded by the Rome based Pinciana Record label, specialized in stage soundtracks, under the group name Complesso Strumentale Nova Vera. Tracks vary from jazz to samba to funk-disco. This one is sung in Neapolitan dialect, and titled “Ma l’Ammore”; the text would say that only in Naples they are good in making love…well i hope not only in Naples to tell the truth!

QUATTRO LUNE

glitter_paper_moon_001-5907
“I’ d like to go to another planet, which i might live long enough to accomplish. Just get on a spaceship and go. But not the moon. I don’t see any flowers there. The moon is too close. I want to go further.” Shirley MacLaine

Track is “Quattro Lune” (literally “Four Moons”), by Antonella Forte, A-side of a 7″ issued in 1981 by italian label Drums Edizioni Musicali. Lyrics are a funny mix of glamourness and fascination with space. Lipstick on, look at the mirror, and transfer your body in space dust.

Katty Line – Adriano

FLYER DEL PRIMADONNA,MILANO,1979_n

Take your Fiorucci t-shirt, and come with me, we will do a nice tour of Milan. I have a special time machine that can take us back to 1980, and i assure i know where to bring you… Such exotic places as Primadonna, No Ties and La Nuova Idea are the best gay clubs in town; fashion is not yet the first  business here, but people love to party in the craziest and sometimes home-made attires. Leather men, punks, “Fioruccini” types create a wonderful mix, especially at La Nuova Idea, where often “luna park-style” disco pumps from the speakers. Now the French chanteuse Katty Line is singing her new disco hit Adriano, written and produced in Italy by Phil Sun (name under which hides the great Miro/Mario Baldoni). It’s only midnight, time machine will wait us outside. NOW DANCE!

Track is side-a of a 7″ issued in 1980 by Radio Records. Side-b is  Viens track, a bit slower, but nice too.

Catherine Deneuve

Catherine Deneuve – Digital Delay

Is she now botox-free or not? In any case in 1981 when this Serge Gainsbourg-penned record came out she was one of the most beautiful women on this planet. The track is not bad either.
