Silver Satin

Solcyst – Silver Satin

Current Biology issue September 10, 2015 features a study about social softness illusion – meaning how and why other peoples skin feels softer than your own. The illusion of softness can be intensified by the velocity of skin stroking. The optimal speed according the study is between 3 to 10 cm/s. Naturally there’re individual preferences. If you follow all the instructions and still can’t feel the softness, one can always exfoliate and moisturize.

More HI-NRG?!

HI-NRG?!

Why not. After the recent 80s Bass post I got several messages requesting for more so here goes, another quick peek at London’s Heaven club on a Saturday night in 1984. Take a cab to Charing Cross station at midnight, walk  down Villiers Street, turn right, step under the arches below the station and there you are, ready for the mass of torsos in the dark, the stench of poppers and the thump.

Black Mercedes

Skorpio – Black Mercedes

Mr. Eddy says his 450 SEL 6.9 has 1400 hp. I wouldn’t dare to doubt that. I wish Mr. Lynch had included this Skorpio track in Lost Highway.

Rhodas

El Sueño De Hyparco – Rhodas

Floating at 90 bpm. Feels more like being a bit too drunk to move away from the sofa than searching for perfect beaches in Ródos.

Macchinismo E Nostalgia

Recht Herzlich – Macchinismo E Nostalgia

Impossible catchy 80’s wave for these lonely, cold, dark autumn evenings. Plays well with Fumio: Heart Beat.

Ecoute Le Son Du Soleil (Instrumental)

Yannick Chevalier ‎– Ecoute Le Son Du Soleil (Instrumental)

In 1984 we didn’t have recordings from actual sounds of the sun, but what a lovely idea to imagine it sounding like an addicting disco instrumental.

Nuori Inka

Jarmo Juhani – Nuori inka

Cultural appropriation, Finland, 1981. Shameless stealing and intentional misinterpretation or intertextual homage? Nuori Inka means young Inka in Finnish. Inka is a name for 6215 females and less than 5 males according to the Population Register Center. In this case Nuori Inka is not a mere mortal human being, but a homeless ghost of a young Inca-being referring to the destruction of the Inca culture. Kudos to dj Mikko Mattlar for pointing out this one and dj Piitu for handing me a copy. The record wasn’t a huge success in 1981, but it’s been a pleasure to see the reactions on the dancefloors of 2017!

Are They Really Gonna… ?

Matterhorn Project – Are They Really Gonna… ?

As a kid I had a questionable privilege to watch numerous nuclear war documentaries at the prime time. A Generation experience with dramatic effects on how to view the world. I played a lot of peace and love themed records last weekend and had this one cued to slow things down, but the porter had to obey the rules and end the party in time. What a pity. I felt we could have easily danced for hours more.

Safari

Isabel Patton – Safari

Isabel Patton, la mujer de la tierra caliente! Born Isabel Paton, this Spanish woman was a flaming Diva of the highest order to rival Lyda Zamora, Charo and even Bibi Andersen herself. Fame for the torrid bombshell arrived in 1972 with the ballad Sin Tener Nada Que Ocultar and several hits followed. Soy Una Dama (1977) was a superior version of Sorry I’m A Lady but the real blast arrived in 1983 with this tour de force, an exceptional achievement of epic propotions melting down all surfaces.

New Wave Sequence

Sauveur Mallia – New Wave Sequence

Checking my  1980s Tele Music library for the forthcoming gigs. Matching test bed for this 1983 track would be a Citroën BX 19 DIGIT at 180 km/h. Unfortunately all these vinyls mean I’ve to settle for a lesser Citroën, but yes, it seems to work at high speeds so into the bag it goes.

Guest mix: Geoffrey LaRue

DETROIT, the home of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler, the birthplace of Motown and techno. Unexpectedly there’s dark and dangerous disco throbbing there too, as can be heard in this  mix from Detroit dj Geoffrey LaRue. Now, strip to your underwear and take a trip to (Ho)Motor City.

Viens Philosopher

Kuniko Yamada – Viens Philosopher

Hei hei baby Bonjour! This song is composed and arranged by Haruomi Hoshono, who is famous for a member of YMO. This song is included in the B side of “Tetsugaku Shiyo”. Art nouveau decadence! Logique panique oh la la!
