Do The Zru

Zru Vogue – Do The Zru

This was one of too many records I had in the bag(s) at the NYE gig. Even though I lusted to play it beforehand the timing just didn’t feel right… until the party was over and I got a little lost in the garden watching peoples breath condensing in the cold winter air. It was too late. Nothing lasts forever or actually a few hours more would have been just enough. Maybe next time then.

Disco Dance

Strikers – Disco Dance

Massive German private pressing from ’81. Dirty cheap production with an almost acid like synth repeating through the track. What can i say besides, Let’s go Disco dance, Disco dance, Disco dance!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Curro Savoy – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Welcome to 2018, the 10th anniversary year of Overfitting Disco! Here’s a suitably dramatic number to start anticipating the killers on their way – and there will be LOTS.

Passage – Watching You Dance

Haughty wavish tune from 1981 for people who master the art of looking bored while still having a great time.

Tatuaje

Fama – Tatuaje

Hors de question the track of 2017 for me. Originally a hit for Conchita Piquer during the forties, the classic song was picked up by Basque country star of stage and screen Fernando Tellextea Fama for a dramatic makeover in 1983. Here’s the translation:

He came in a boat with a foreign name
I found him at the port one dusk
When the white lighthouse was letting fall its
Silver kiss over the sailboats

He was beautiful and fair-haired, like a lager
His chest was tattooed with a heart
In his bitter voice there was sadness
Aching and weary of the accordion

And in front of two glasses of liquor
Atop the stained bar-top
He went along telling me through his teeth
The old story of his love:

“Look at my chest tattooed
With this woman’s name
It’s a reminder of the past
That will never come back

She loved me once and now she’s forgotten me
I, on the other hand, didn’t forget her
And I go around forever marked
With this woman’s name.”

He went away one afternoon,
In the same boat that brought him to me
But he left behind between my lips
A lover’s kiss that I asked of him

Wandering, I search for him in all the ports
I ask the sailors for him
And nobody can tell me if he’s dead or alive
And I continue in my doubt, faithfully searching

And I go about slowly bleeding
From bar to bar
In front of a glass of liquor
Where I drown my pain

Look at your name tattooed
In the caress of my skin
By a low flame I’ve marked it in
And I always go around with it

Maybe you’ve already forgotten me
I, on the other hand, didn’t forget you
And for as long as I haven’t found you
I will search for you, without rest

Listen to me, sailor
And tell me, what do you know about him?
He was fine-looking and haughty
And his hair fairer than honey

Look at his foreign name
Written here on my skin
If you happen to find him
Tell him that I… I’m dying to see him.”

La Massagiste

Wilma Diaz – La Massagiste

Superior version of Painel De Controle’s Relax with French lyrics. Whispering vocalist Wilma Diaz sounds like she has found a relaxing massage therapist. My current working place has a complicated massage chair system to help the workers feel more relaxed and motivated. Sure it’s a great idea… but I’ve been too afraid to try it, because it looks as intimidating as vintage massage toys and is made of dead cows. I’m quite sure it can’t compare to human touch.

Les Planètes

Goldorak ost – Les Planètes

You have to check quite many Goldorak sevens to find the right one(s). This Canadian release has all the required elements to please dancers into psyched sounds. Seems to make sense when mixed with Massiera/Torelli cult item Hercule – Little Green Men.

Ich Tanze Mit Dir In Den Himmel Hinein

Neue Heimat – Ich tanze mit dir in den himmel hinein

Neue Heimat – Typen in trenchcoats

The Himmel tune was originally a hit for all kinds of acts like Lilian Harvey and Willy Fritsch. There was also a German film in 1952 of the same name which presumably presented the song during it’s grande finale. And here is the Himmel now, in magnificent early 80s mode! The b-side ain’t scheisse either oder was.

Judging by it’s sleeve my copy seems to have been spinned at Martinique discotheque in Vernau.

Wie Phönix Aus Der Asche

Karl Mzik ‎– Wie Phönix Aus Der Asche

Lot’s of talk about Austrian disco lately. Tiney posted a lot of obscure stuff here not so long ago, so let me add to the hype with this banger from 1982. If you’re still hungry for more Austrian stuff i can highly recommend Mike Burns mix that was made for the last Overfitting B day party.

On Fire

G. Race – On Fire (Vocal Version)

Trying to organize records in sizes, genres and alphabets. Sure it’s important to be organized, but it takes time, cause I get easily distracted by wow-moments with records I haven’t touched in years. Looking forward to play this cult classic at my favourite places.

Jestem Twoim Grzechem

Izabela Trojanowska ‎- Jestem Twoim Grzechem

The internet is obviously a superior flea market compared to the actual ones, but finding something exciting while digging crates at moldy buildings is more sensuous. It was the intense facial expressions of Izabela that got me excited at the flea in Parainen – there might be something amazing on this lp… Google translate gives a hint that also the lyrics match the soundscape.
